What I’m watching/reading: The Puma Blues: The Complete Saga by Stephen Murphy & Michael Zulli
I read and collected this comic book series back in the 80’s and remember being blown away by the art. I’m amazed there’s a new hardcover collection and I’m excited to re-read it.

Recently excited by: this interview with Josh Waitzkin, aka “Bobby Fischer”. It’s a life-changing interview on how to learn and ways on how to improve your life.

Weekly bits: Scott Adams (yes, the Dilbert Scott Adams) wrote a interesting and rational take on some of the most important political issues facing us and the candidates today

Quote o’ the week: The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read. -Mark Twain

Song o’ the week: The Theme from the Elephant Man. Haunting piece.

What I’m watching/reading: On the Move, by Oliver Sacks. He’s lived a helluva life and it’s a helluva read.

Recently excited by: Reading books again! After listening to an interview with Derek Sivers, where he talks about his reading habits, I’ve gotten a lot less stressed about all the books I don’t have time to read and instead, just committed to reading 20-30 pages a day. Depending on how long each book is, that means I should be able to get through about 20-30 books a year. Not too bad.

Weekly bits: Cryonics has always been one of those “that sounds cool, but I’m not sure I’d take it too seriously” kind of science. After reading Why Cryonics Makes Sense…it does make a certain kind of sense. I’m not interested enough to run out and sign right up for it, but still…it’s interesting, less as a way to live for a longer time than as a potentially possible way to “time-travel” to the future…

Quote o’ the week:

The wish to travel seems to me characteristically human: the desire to move, to satisfy your curiosity or ease your fears, to change the circumstances of your life, to be a stranger, to make a friend, to experience an exotic landscape, to risk the unknown.
—PAUL THEROUX

Song o’ the week: The Golden Gate – Anjani Thomas

What I’m watching/reading: The Fountain explained. I really like this movie. It’s such an underrated wondrous movie with such a great soundtrack. I’m glad someone else agrees.

Recently excited by: Slinky defies gravity?!
Mesmerizing display of physics and science. I understand the science and yet it’s still so counterintuitive that part of my brain still refuses to believe it.

Weekly bits: Colonels of Truth. I never knew reading the story of KFC’s “Colonel Sanders” could be so compelling.

Quote o’ the week: “Trump is a walking Dunning-Kruger effect…” –boingboing
Donald Trump explained in one simple phrase.

Song o’ the week: Why Can’t a Woman Be More Like a Man?
