What I’m watching/reading: On the Move, by Oliver Sacks. He’s lived a helluva life and it’s a helluva read.

Recently excited by: Reading books again! After listening to an interview with Derek Sivers, where he talks about his reading habits, I’ve gotten a lot less stressed about all the books I don’t have time to read and instead, just committed to reading 20-30 pages a day. Depending on how long each book is, that means I should be able to get through about 20-30 books a year. Not too bad.

Weekly bits: Cryonics has always been one of those “that sounds cool, but I’m not sure I’d take it too seriously” kind of science. After reading Why Cryonics Makes Sense…it does make a certain kind of sense. I’m not interested enough to run out and sign right up for it, but still…it’s interesting, less as a way to live for a longer time than as a potentially possible way to “time-travel” to the future…

Quote o’ the week:

The wish to travel seems to me characteristically human: the desire to move, to satisfy your curiosity or ease your fears, to change the circumstances of your life, to be a stranger, to make a friend, to experience an exotic landscape, to risk the unknown.
